This five-pointed star was used symbolically in many different ways. Standing on two edges, it is one of the best known symbols worldwide and symbolises universal mankind. With only one edge pointing down, it is believed to be the footprint of nocturnal gremlins. No matter whether the two edges point up or down, the pentagram is the symbol of the five senses and the five virtues of knighthood: frankness, fellowship, purity, courtesy and compassion.
